Rito La Cueva Spring

I lost several of my favorite trails in this area due to this thinning project, but I must say this is one of the best I've seen yet. It will be really nice when complete

Getting near the top

Climbing west of Smokey Bear Hill

Cruising the ridge

Starting to drop to the west

I'm on the Cuba side now, looking south toward Mt. Taylor. You can see Cabazon Peak through the smoke. Several forest fires were burning.

Descending around the north side of Cerro Castrado

The north side of Cerro Castrado

Looking up at Cerro Castrado from the south side

The dyke at the bottom of 534 runs for miles. It's a pretty cool feature.

Looking north at Cerro Castrado

Heading down on the right road

San Miguel Mines are near those peaks in the center. See the dyke on the right.

Cerro Castrado is now in the distance. I had come down a canyon on the back side of it.

Near Sna Miguel Spring

Heading up 534B

Climbing up the west side of San Miguel Mountian - Cerro Castrado in the background - Cuba is just west of the hills on the horizon.

Looking south you see the dyke in the center and volcanic plugs along the Rio Puerco near the horizon.

Redondo Peak from the top of San Miguel Mountain

Joaquin Mesa in the center - Sandias on the horizon I could see plumes of smoke from the Doghead Fire in the Manzano Mountains

Dropping down the 2 mile descent from the peak It's all downhill from here

9 more miles of downhill to camp

A little below Bales Seep

South end of Holiday Mesa near Deer Creek Landing
