Jemez Rides June 2016
Day 1 Deer Creek to
Mesa Venado
This set of photos is from a week long trip I took. My base camp was near Deer Creek Landing and I rode out from there each day.
I've
tried to show the diversity of the scenery rather than a log of the
particular route, though the photos are generally in sequence.
Looking up at the south end of Holiday Mesa, the great scenery begins.

Heading up 376 through the tunnels. This was originally the route of
the railroad.

The trail climbs along the base of the cliffs of Mesa Venado.

I'll be on top of these cliffs later in the ride.

Venado looking north at Stable Mesa across to the south end of
Holiday Mesa and down 376 with Virgin Mesa on the right The roads
you see are 376 and 652. The peak in the center on the horizon is
Redondo. (Scroll to the right.)

At the south end of the mesa, you can look over the edge of the cliff and see the trail below where I started.

Looking west up Deer Creek Sierra Naciemento is the horizon. I will get up there several times in the next few days.

Looking east from the south end of Mesa Venado across Peggy Mesa to Mesa Guadalupita and beyond.
