Cumbres Pass - Flattop Mountain Ride with the Los Alamos Tuff Riders

This trip is in New Mexico, but closer to Colorado, which is why it's in the Colorado section.

I got a late start Friday afternoon, going to Chama, so I camped near the trailhead of the Continental Divide Trail.
Next morning, I took a ride up Trail 14.  Here are a couple of shots near the top before joining Trail 5.

I didn't know the train was running , but happened to be just in time to catch
these shots as the the 484 pulled the train up the final grade to the pass.

The day started out
pretty nice, but  by the time we reached Truillo Lake  it started to snow.
After everyone had gone back to camp, the weather turned nice again.  I had a great ride following the cow trail along the railroad tracks.

Sunrise at camp and across the road.

It's the dawn of a new day.  Will the weather cooperate ?

     Not this day.

Up the switchbacks -  It may look flat in this shot - it wasn't

Sloppy trails couldn't keep us from enjoying  this great trip.
Watching the train climb the pass from an overlook on the trail

I was told this was the first time in 9 years that the weather was bad.  It's a great trail.  I'll have to try it again sometime.

After we all got back,  the weather cleared once again in time to get some more shots of the train.
