Trail Building at Juan Tomas Open Space  w826

The Juan Tomas Open Space is South of Tijeras, NM past the Oak Flat Picnic Area. Even though this is out of Albuquerque, it is a city Open Space.
It is a beautiful area with ponderosa pines, pinon and juniper. There are several very nice, well maintained trails there.
This project will be to bypass a user trail that has eroded to 4 feet deep in places.

Jim Sattler - Assistant Open Space Superintendent starts us off with a safety talk and construction guidelines.
Most of the work will be done with the Mcleod, mattock and loppers. We also use a Pulaski, rock bar, shovel, bucket and saws.

Ready to work.         Jim is maticulous when it comes to building trails. They are very well designed and hold up very well.

Most of us have built trails with Jim for several years. We volunteer for this and love doing it.

Great trails don't just happen. If you love using them, pay it forward by coming out and join us to make it happen.
