The desert section is covered by samples of minerals and other cool rocks  from my explorations all over the west and from my mother's collection.
She always wanted a rock garden and now she has one.

One of our concerns before starting this project, was that the whole area might be drab and unattractive in the winter time.
It doesn't look like that will be a problem.  Many of the flowers have survived below freezing temperatures and continue to bloom.
We should be able to plant those hardy varieties, strategically to provide some color through winter into spring when the bulbs start.
