Sandia Mountains

South Peak Hike - Sandia Mountains

South Peak is the high point at the far right of this image. Elevation of the peak is 9785'. Once you get to the saddle
you see on the crest line at the left of the image, the trail more or less follows the crest line you see here.

This hike was unplanned. It was the "Plan B" result of a disc brake failure on my mountain bike. The original plan was to mountain bike from
Cedar Crest to the top of Sandia Crest. After trying for half an hour to get the air out of my front brake without results, I opted to go for a hike.
I drove further up the mountain and started at the Tree Spring Trailhead. Fortunately, I had shoes that I could hike in and was able to put together
enough gear for the hike. I knew this adventure would be at least 12 miles and I still had enough time to do it. It was a beautiful day and the fall
colors were spectacular. The hike ended up being ~ 16 miles with 4500' of climb.

This is just a sample of  close to 300 photos I shot that day. I may add a seperate page on this later if I have the time.
