This trail follows the backbone of a ridge and has some
serious climbs and descents. These abundant trails are built for fat
bikes which
typically have 3-5" wide tires. Some of these trails are not for the
faint of heart. After a good rain a few days ago, I'm doing
well on a regular mountain bike, though some of the narrower elevated
trail structures can be somewhat intimidating. Riding alone in the
middle of nowhere on a cold day is not a place
where you can afford any lack of confidence.
The soil is
fragile out
here, so if you ride or hike out here please stay on the trail at all
times and avoid skidding your wheels.
On the horizon in the next photo, you can see Pajarito
Peak at the
south end of the Jemez Mountains. There are so many places to
experience and explore.
The days are short and chilly. It's breezy on the ridges, but warmer in
the canyons. Seeing the Sandias with a fresh cap of new snow off in the
distance is awesome, but
I'm very aware that the sun is going down and will soon need
head back for home, a 40 mile
drive away.
